DUDUK – Der Film

Music can do a lot - it makes us dance, moves us to tears, it is culture, also personal taste. And, it tells stories.

The film »DUDUK« tells the story of a small, inconspicuous wooden instrument with a sound that has carried the soul of Armenia for over 2,000 years. This sound became world famous when Hans Zimmer recorded it for the soundtrack of the film "Gladiator".

For Sören Birke, musician and concert organizer from Berlin, a journey began here - in a Berlin cinema - which has brought him to Armenia over and over again for many years. He met the best duduk players, got to know the Armenian folk hero Djivan Gasparyan, took lessons in the game of duduk and met the Armenians and their culture. The film is dedicated to the instrument and its special features. A loving look into a unique part of the Armenian culture.
